Freeman Rogers

Editor of The BVI Beacon newspaper in the British Virgin Islands, where he has lived and worked for 11 years. He weathered Hurricane Irma — which destroyed his apartment and sucked away most of his belongings — in an Episcopal Church that served as a shelter, and the newspaper continued to publish online updates during and after the storm. He is a South Carolina native who previously worked in North Carolina and Baltimore.
